Dr. Wolfgang Bauer has been a member of the faculty at Michigan State University since 1988 and was named University Distinguished Professor in 2007. He was the chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy from 2001 to 2013 and subsequently served as Associate Vice President for Administration until 2020.  Among his projects were the MSU Energy Transition Plan, modernization of the MSU micro-grid, establishment of the office of the Campus Sustainability Director, and several on-campus renewable energy projects, mostly via PPPs, which will generate more than half of MSU’s peak electrical demand.  Among his honors and awards are the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation Distinguished Senior U.S. Scientist Award and the National Science Foundation Presidential Faculty Fellow Award, and he was named a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
